Project: Proposal for a narrow high-rise combination retail, office and residential structure on South State Street in Chicago .

1994

Project Objective: Using building's various programmatic objectives as a guide the building utilizes 2 different structural systems each in the area appropriate to the location of the corresponding programmatic use. Office spaces which typically requires less window area in order to reduce heat gain in an already heat-generating environment are supported by outside compression columns. Upper stories where views are desired are devoted to Residential floors. These floors are tension cable supported to allow for maximum window area un-impeded by outside columns.
